Mentorship Program
The IPPSSA Mentorship program aims to connect new and second year students to upper years, to foster connection between students and to facilitate the academic and professional growth of new students by providing support, guidance, and knowledge transfer from experienced mentors to mentees.
There will be two large program meetings with attendance being mandatory, one near the beginning of the fall semester and one early in the winter semester. Additionally, there are many exciting AÉÉIPPSSA events that participants of the program can attend and use as a starting point for meetings.
Mentees
Why sign up to be a mentee?
If you're an incoming 1st or 2nd year student looking to build connections, and learn more about the university, Ottawa, and future pathways, the mentorship program is a great start! Mentees will be connected with some of the best & brightest upper year students in IPPSSA, who will be able to answer their questions, show them around campus, help them with social integration and share experiences on academics and careers.
What are the expectations of a mentee?
Mentees will be expected to stay in touch and communicate with their mentor for the duration of the program and attend mandatory mentorship events.
Mentors
Why sign up to be a mentor?
If you're a student in 3rd year or above who is passionate about building community, and sharing your experiences and knowledge with new students, becoming a mentor is right for you! Additionally, mentors gain volunteer hours, transferable skills, and a deep sense of fulfillment.
What are the expectations of a mentor?
Mentors will be provided with guidelines and monthly topic and activity recommendations. It will be up to mentors to apply their own personal experience in interpreting the topics or determining alternatives, and to communicate with mentees to set up meetings. Mentors are not responsible for mental health support or tutoring and are encouraged to direct mentees to the appropriate resources.
